A drone brought in by waves was found on Friday on the northern beach of Burgas, in the Solniţke area, and the army transported it to a military base for examination, reports the Bulgarian press.
The discovery comes two days after Poland reported an intrusion of Russian drones into its airspace, an incident that prompted NATO to strengthen its defense on the eastern flank by launching Operation „Eastern Sentry.”
According to Novinite, witnesses reported seeing the unmanned aerial vehicle in an unguarded area of the coast, prompting police intervention.
The object, nearly a meter long, was heavily corroded, with the rear part and right wing missing, indicating that it had been in the sea for a long time.
There were no visible identification marks on the drone, and authorities emphasized that it posed no threat to the public.
Initial information about a suspicious floating object resembling a drone was received around 9:36, after which the area was secured. Military experts were sent to assess and retrieve the device.
A specialized team from the Burgas naval base conducted a complete reconnaissance, confirming that the drone did not contain explosives and did not pose a danger.
Following the evaluation, the drone was safely transported to the naval base in Burgas for further examinations. Security services are currently working to determine its origin and purpose.
