Moldova will have, starting from September 1, a legal framework that allows the destruction or neutralization of drones illegally flying over the national airspace.
The provision is included in the Law on Airspace Security, published on Friday in the Official Gazette, as reported by Moldpres.
The air forces under the Ministry of Defense will be able to destroy, neutralize, or take control of unmanned aircraft crossing the border illegally.
In cases where interception is not possible, the Border Police will have the right to immobilize drones or deactivate them by blocking command, control, or communication functions.
The law also provides measures for cases where civilian or state aircraft with pilots on board use the national airspace unauthorized. In such situations, the Ministry of Defense will ensure the protection of the airspace, in collaboration with other authorities.
The document elaborated by the Ministry of Defense regulates the legal, organizational, and administrative relationships in the airspace security process, the intervention methods in different scenarios, and the competencies required for approving measures.
According to the authorities, the new law was necessary due to the regional and national security context, as well as the gaps in the current legislation regarding airspace protection.
