The Ambassador of Romania to the United States, Andrei Muraru, welcomes the mobilization of Romanians from overseas and considers the massive vote as a resolute choice for democratic and Western values.
In his opinion, the outcome of the election is not just an electoral option, but a statement of loyalty to Romania’s Euro-Atlantic direction.
Muraru argues that Romania maintains its pro-European voice and democracy status, adding that we celebrate not just a vote, but "a testament to the unwavering spirit of the Romanian people."
"Romania has chosen, through the outcome of this presidential election vote, to maintain its pro-European voice and democracy status in the course of consolidation - so hard-won and defended. We celebrate not just a vote, but a testament to the unwavering spirit of the Romanian people," wrote Andrei Muraru on Facebook.
Historic Voter Turnout
The Romanian diplomat added that Sunday's vote is "a strong reaffirmation of the Western choice, a choice that was paid with blood and sacrifices in 1989 and during the transition to NATO and the European Union."
"The sacrifices of these generations have been the cornerstone of our democracy. The generations that followed have patiently and perseveringly built a pro-Western Romania, which yesterday decided on the path to follow in the future.
At the same time, we have seen how Russia has tried to undermine our democracy and that of our neighbors, but we have remained steadfast, defending the values of freedom and democracy. Moldova and Ukraine are our friends with whom we will not part.
"As our recent friends - former US ambassadors to Bucharest - have said, it was a choice between America and Russia. And Romanians chose the USA," said Ambassador Andrei Muraru.
He added that the voter turnout of Romanians in the United States was the highest since Romania has been organizing elections in the USA.
"The 25,718 Romanians who voted in the cities and states of America have set an important record and have shown that they care about Romania - it was the highest voter turnout since Romania has been organizing elections in the United States, with nearly 70 percent choosing the Western path.
"I want to convey to everyone that I am proud of the unprecedented civic mobilization dedicated to Romania," Ambassador Andrei Muraru further stated.
