A Romanian MP from the National Liberal Party (PNL) is accused of blocking his ex-wife in traffic, hitting her car, and threatening her with violence. He is facing criminal charges and has had his driver’s license revoked.
Everything happened on Monday, on Walter Mărăcineanu Street in the Brăilița neighborhood in Brăila, Romania, as reported by local media.
The deputy in question is George Paladi, 45 years old.
The woman's car was damaged during the incident, and she called 112 for help.
The former wife of the liberal MP reported that the man threatened to hit her, and then blocked her in traffic, hitting her car.
"Police officers from the Brăila Municipality Police were alerted through a 112 call by a woman regarding being threatened by her ex-husband.
At the scene, the officers identified the woman in question, who stated that she had a spontaneous conflict with her ex-husband, a 45-year-old man, during which he threatened her with violence and blocked her in traffic with his car, causing damage to her vehicle.
The individuals involved were invited to the police station for further investigation and clarification of the situation," announced the Brăila Police.
"I wouldn't want to comment too much on this, it's a personal issue. Regarding the accident, I can tell you that she hit me, not the other way around. In the photos, you can see that my car is hit in the back, and there is a stripe along the entire length of the vehicle. If I could do that while driving... Anyway, the justice system will determine exactly who is at fault," stated the deputy to G4Media.
It is certain that Paladi was fined twice by the police, 200 lei for violations of social coexistence norms, and 600 lei for traffic violations. Additionally, the deputy's driver's license was suspended for 60 days. The police have opened a criminal case against him for threats.
The former wife has been informed, according to legal procedures, that she can request a protection order from the court.
A former prefect, George Adrian Paladi was elected as a deputy in 2020 on the PSD (Social Democratic Party) Brăila list, but later joined PNL after running for the leadership of PSD Brăila in 2023 and losing to Francisk Iulian Chiriac, the President of the County Council.
