The Kosovo national team narrowly won their away match in Kaunas, Lithuania, with a score of 2-1 in the first game of the day in Romania’s Nations League Group, Group 2 of UEFA’s newly established League C competition.
The Kosovars scored through Zhegrova and Krasniqi, the latter being a former player from Rapid, in the 20th and 65th minutes, while the Baltic country reduced the difference through Golubickas in the 84th minute, after a huge mistake by goalkeeper Amir Saipi in the penalty area.
The Baltic team could have evened the score two minutes later, but the same Saipi, goalkeeper at FC Lugano in Switzerland, intervened heroically. In the immediate next play, another former Rapid player, Albion Rrahmani, could have sealed the game, but the goalkeeper from U Cluj, Gertmonas, made an incredible save.
Kosovo has two victories and earns 6 points in the standings, currently in 2nd place behind Romania. In the event of a Cypriot victory tonight, we will have 3 teams with six points in this already complicated group of the Nations League.
On Tuesday, October 15, Romania will also arrive in Kaunas for the return match against Lithuania, following that 3-1 victory at the Ghencea Stadium.
