Gabi Ruse recounts the moments she went through in the match against Badosa at the US Open: "I didn't know I had a match point"

Romanian tennis player Gabriela Ruse was our standout performer at the US Open Grand Slam tournament currently taking place at Flushing Meadows.

The Romanian, ranked 97th in the WTA at the moment and 26 years old, was eliminated on Friday evening in the third round at the US Open by Paula Badosa from Spain. It was a dramatic match, on the edge, ending in the decisive tiebreak, with a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-7 (8), missing a match point as well.

On Sunday, Ruse returned to the country and talked about what happened in the USA, revealing that she didn't even realize she wasted a match point in New York, a point that could have taken her to the quarterfinals, undoubtedly the best result of her career: "Honestly, I feel like I won this match. I have no regrets. I played extraordinarily well and I am very proud of everything I achieved in America. Of course, I'm sorry I didn't qualify for the fourth round, but I think I showed an excellent game and I am very confident for the upcoming tournaments. I came from the qualifiers. Clearly, I didn't think I would go that far. I also had a pretty bad fall, I played against two opponents in very good form. I felt very good in America, I really like New York, I really like the US Open, and I think that showed."

Honestly, as I also discussed with my team after the match, I didn't know I had a match point. I was very focused on each point, enjoying every moment on the court, and when the umpire called 5-5, I had a little shock, I realized it was a match point. Somehow, she rushed me then. Her experience showed, but I have absolutely no regrets. I think it's a plus for me," said our tennis player according to Sport.ro.

Ruse will therefore return starting Monday to the top 100 WTA and now has more and more confidence to tackle the hard court season in Asia.
