Roxana Mânzatu could be nominated for the position of European Commissioner

PSD MEP Roxana Mînzatu could be an option for the position of European Commissioner, in the event that Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu will propose a woman, political sources stated to Mediafax.

At this moment, no decision has been made in that direction, the sources mentioned.

Roxana Mînzatu was the Minister for European Funds five years ago.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu did not exclude the possibility of nominating a woman for the position of European Commissioner, after triumphantly presenting Victor Negrescu as Romania's proposal a few days ago, without consulting President Klaus Iohannis beforehand.

"It's a negotiation process. I don't negotiate with the Commission President on deficit issues in the context of nominating the European Commissioner.

At this moment, of course, I talk to other political leaders, we try to negotiate the best portfolio and the most representative for Romania. There are several proposals.

The Commission President doesn't only do this with Romania, but with all EU prime ministers. It's a longer process that we will finalize," Marcel Ciolacu said.

Asked when he will make the nomination, he bluntly replied: "When we are satisfied with the portfolio."

He also stated that Ursula von der Leyen requested the nomination of a woman from the beginning.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, asked Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu to nominate a woman for European Commissioner, as only six states have nominated women.

The proposal made by Marcel Ciolacu for the European Commissioner position on behalf of Romania is Victor Negrescu.
