TAS response after Americans invoked a conflict of interest in Ana Bărbosu's medal case

American journalists from CNN have invoked a conflict of interest in the process in which Ana Bărbosu was awarded the bronze medal in the floor final.

CNN noted that one of the judges, Hamid Gharavi, has represented Romania in several legal cases in recent years.

Considering this, CNN asked CAS if there is a conflict of interest. The Swiss tribunal stated that there is no such issue.

"In accordance with the guidelines on conflicts of interest issued by the International Bar Association (IBA), CAS has no reason to remove an arbitrator who makes such a disclosure if the parties do not object to his appointment," was the response provided by CAS.

Hamid Gharavi was the president of the three-player panel at CAS in Ana Bărbosu's case.

It is worth mentioning that CAS ruled that the Americans filed a protest after the regulation minute, so the bronze medal was taken from Jordan Chiles and awarded to Ana Bărbosu.

The Americans claimed they complied with the regulation time, but CAS rejected their appeal as well.
