Romanian swimmer David Popovici, who is preparing for the 2024 Olympics, easily dominated in his favorite events of the 100m and 200m freestyle at an international competition held over the weekend in Antwerp, Antwerp Diamond Speedo, where only athletes from Belgium and the Netherlands participated, with the exception of him.

In the 100m freestyle, David Popovici recorded the best time in the heats (48.57 seconds), and in the final, he won with a time of 48.34 seconds, ahead of the Dutch swimmers Sean Niewold (48.89 seconds) and Stan Pijnenburg (49.97 seconds).

In the heats of the 200m freestyle, Popovici was the fastest with a time of 1 minute 51.13 seconds, and then convincingly won the final with 1 minute 46.51 seconds, surpassing the Dutch swimmers Koen Marsman (1 minute 51.13 seconds) and Efe Ongoren (1 minute 51.44 seconds).

Popovici, a former European champion in the 100m and 200m freestyle, will compete next month at the National Senior, Youth, and Junior Swimming Championships in the Olympic pool in Otopeni (April 17-21).
