The Romanian national team is in the same Group E at EURO 2024 with Belgium, as well as with Slovakia and Ukraine, and a former great striker of the neighboring country with the Netherlands and France criticized the national team led by Edi Iordănescu.
Romania will face Belgium on Saturday, June 22, in the 2nd round of Group E at EURO 2024, in a match that will take place in Koln, starting at 22:00.
In an interview for the Belgian press, Marc Degryse (58 years old), former Belgian international, previewed the upcoming match of his national team against Romania, expressing a viewpoint completely lacking respect for us: "There is a possibility, a good chance even, that our players will not even be tested in the group stage. I have seen Romania's recent friendly matches and, from my perspective, that means nothing for Belgium. Romania means nothing! Will we play the EURO 2024 final? That is the intention. On paper, other teams are stronger, but sometimes this calculation doesn't hold up.
Although we remain Belgium, with our style, we need to be creative in Germany, to innovate. Sometimes, you try to win matches in a different way," stated Marc Degryse, for HLN.
Degryse played for Belgium in the 1990 and 1994 World Cups, earning a total of 63 caps and scoring 23 goals for the national team. Born in Roeselare, he won the Dutch Eredivisie with PSV, was 5-time Belgian champion, 4 times with Anderlecht and once with Club Brugge, won 2 Belgian Cups, one with Anderlecht, the other with Brugge, 6 Belgian Super Cups, and 3 Dutch Super Cups. He was voted Belgian Footballer of the Year in 1991.
