The police officer who lent Romanian senator Diana Șoșoacă his motorcycle and police helmet, and also took a picture with her, reacted on Facebook, asking his friends to support him and send messages to the email addresses of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Romanian Government in his defense.
He says he would have taken a picture with anyone who asked, and that everything happened during a break, even though he was on duty.
The Romanian Police has initiated an inquiry after senator Diana Șoșoacă posted on social media a video in which she gets on a Police motorcycle, wearing a police helmet. Additionally, the senator also took a photo with a police officer in uniform, the inquiry targeting a possible violation of the Police Status.
”I appeal to all of you. Today is the day when I need all of you. Please listen until the end.
If you think I deserve it, please send a supportive message to the email addresses of the government or the Ministry of Internal Affairs. pm@gov.ro and cabinet@mai.gov.ro.
When you came to me to take a picture on the highway or to hug, I didn't ask for your party membership card to see where you're from or who you are.
When you needed a police officer, I was there for each of you and I didn't try to fine you, I tried to help.
I respected all of you and I never turned my back on anyone regardless of the situation,” wrote Valer Kovacs on the social network.
The police officer also says in the video posted on Facebook that ”a great national chaos” was triggered after he was photographed with Diana Șoșoacă.
”I didn't see anything out of the ordinary to meet someone even though I'm on duty, I met many of you while on duty and there was no problem.
Considering that she is a public figure, a great national chaos and a major political disturbance were triggered because I dared to meet a public figure from the political sphere.
It's about Senator Diana Ivanovici Șoșoacă. We met in the morning, I think it was around 10 o'clock, she called me. All politicians have my phone number and if any of them had called me, I would have complied with the request to meet during work, even if I'm on duty, I'm allowed to take breaks. And, as I was on a break, in one of the highway parking lots, I agreed to meet with her.
It was an emotional message for me, because the message itself was a thank you to me for my entire activity within the Romanian Police,” explained Valer Kovacs.
Additionally, the police officer emphasized that he does not engage in politics and that if Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu had come to ask him to take a picture, he would have accepted.
”It's not a political propaganda message, I don't engage in any kind of politics. I even said that if Marcel Ciolacu had come on the highway, he also has my number, and he called me and requested to take a picture with me or with the police motorcycle, of course, I would have accepted. I'm not narrow-minded,” Kovacs added.
