21 people have drowned this summer season on the Romanian coast.
The toll is increasing after 16 people died this way in 2021, 20 people drowned in 2022, and 18 last year.
At the same time, 72 people have been rescued from drowning this summer on the coast.
Representatives of the Emergency Situations Inspectorate Dobrogea announced on Friday a report on the summer season, indicating the most dangerous beaches.
"72 people were rescued from drowning, while 21 people died due to submersion accidents, with 93 search and rescue missions carried out in the aquatic environment.
The most interventions took place in the resort of Eforie Sud (253), followed by Eforie Nord (161), Costinești (86), and Vama Veche (69)," firefighters specified.
Nationally, Romania is by far the leader in the European Union when it comes to drowning deaths, considering that in 2021, approximately 21% of all such incidents in the EU were reported in our country, according to data recently published by Eurostat.
Romania is in first place, with 1,033 drowning deaths reported in 2021 across the country.
