Romania in 2024 is becoming increasingly surprising. Today we have a 14-year-old boy caught by police driving a car on a street in Turnu Măgurele. Relatives who arrived immediately in the area confronted the police officers and damaged their police car.
Another boy, also 14 years old, from Craiova, stole three cars and took them for a joyride.
Obviously, neither of them has a driver's license, which can be obtained from the age of 18 onwards.
Let's take them one by one. In Turnu Măgurele, Teleorman County, a kid was caught by the police behind the wheel, even though he was only 14 years old. When the officers wanted to put him in their car, several relatives who were at an event nearby appeared.
One of the relatives pushed a police officer and broke the rear window of the police car after throwing a hard object, while another person in the group threatened and insulted the officers.
Here is the official report from the Teleorman County Police Inspectorate, quoted by News.ro:
"In the meantime, several people, relatives of the minor, who were at an event in the area, became recalcitrant at the location where the police were present.
When the minor was placed in the police car, one of the individuals allegedly pushed one of the police officers and threw a hard object at the police car, breaking its rear window. At the same time, another person uttered insults and threats against the police officers."
The police identified the child's father, who was taken to the police station.
"To prevent unwanted events and maintain peace and public order, several police patrols, a team from the Special Actions Service, and gendarmerie teams were directed to the scene," added the Teleorman County Police Inspectorate.
Meanwhile, in Craiova, another 14-year-old boy was placed in pretrial detention after stealing three cars and driving them on public roads. The incidents occurred between May 6 and September 3.
The boy is accused of three offenses of aggravated theft for use, two offenses of aggravated theft, one attempted aggravated theft, and three offenses of driving a vehicle without a driver's license.
"Yesterday, the police carried out several specific activities to prevent thefts from vehicles, including a home search, during which a 14-year-old minor from Craiova, suspected of committing the crimes, was identified and apprehended. From the investigations, the police established that the minor, between 06.05-03.09.2024, would have stolen three cars, driving them on public roads without possessing a driver's license," announced the police, cited by the same source.
