Geomagnetic storm, a phenomenon caused by a significant mass of solar particles that hit Earth on Thursday, made the aurora borealis visible at much lower latitudes than usual, including in Romania.
The aurora borealis, also known as „northern lights,” is one of the most fascinating natural spectacles on Earth. This glow is caused by the interaction between the charged particles of the Sun and Earth’s atmosphere.
The phenomenon usually occurs in regions near the North Pole, but the geomagnetic storm allowed many more people on the planet to enjoy the sight of the aurora borealis last night.
The red color is less common (usually, the aurora borealis is green or blue), making this event truly special for Romania.
We gathered images from various corners of our country, with the spectacular phenomenon that illuminated the night sky.
From Fundulea to Baia Mare and from Galați to Timișoara, the sky took on colors that seemed almost unreal, even near the Capital.
