The proposal to suspend the President of Romania from office was rejected by the Joint Parliamentary Committees of the Parliament.
This is the second proposal of this kind submitted by the POT group, both in the Senate and in the Chamber of Deputies, the first one being rejected in the vote last weekend.
Two parliamentarians who left S.O.S Romania, Alexandrin Moiseev and Ștefan Alexandru Băişanu, have withdrawn their signatures from the suspension request. However, POT announced that they have gathered all signatures again, from AUR, SOS, and USR.
"I know that this suspension would pass and even their own parliamentarians would vote for it, otherwise they would have let it go to a vote," claims POT leader, Anamaria Gavrilă.
According to Romanian Constitution, in case of committing serious acts that violate the provisions of the Constitution, the President of Romania can be suspended from office by the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, in a joint session, with the majority vote of the deputies and senators, namely 234, after consulting the Constitutional Court. The President can provide explanations to Parliament regarding the alleged acts.
The proposal for suspension from office can be initiated by at least one third of the number of deputies and senators, namely 155 parliamentarians.
