NATO Deputy-General Secretary: Romania is led by an increasingly incompetent political generation

NATO Deputy-General Secretary Mircea Geoană, a potential presidential candidate, argues that Romania is being led by a political generation that is „increasingly incompetent” and that politicians lacking basic knowledge end up in positions that determine the fate of millions of people.

„The country has been and is being led by a political generation that is increasingly incompetent and devoid of true love for the country. For years, we have seen how too many politicians struggle between greed and incompetence. There are many politicians who do not know economics, do not know legislation, do not have any proven qualifications, and yet they lead governments, ministries, agencies, and state-owned companies.

Politicians who have learned almost nothing in their lives, lack basic knowledge, and yet end up in positions that determine the fate of millions of Romanians.

It has become almost unimaginable for a Minister or Prime Minister of Romania to speak a foreign language. This at a time when, if a leader does not speak at least English, they condemn their nation to isolation.

And when these leaders express themselves in Romanian, sometimes you get the feeling that the class dunce is talking to you," stated Mircea Geoană during the debate "From the Heart of Romania to the Heart of Europe," organized in Alba Iulia by the Movement "Romania Reborn!".

According to Geoană, the result of this counter-selection is the country's stagnation and impoverishment.

"Romania lies somewhere on the periphery of the European Union, burdened by weak economic indicators, increasing debts, depleted of people and workforce, frustrated and lacking international relevance, which we thoroughly deserve.

Because our political system is so flawed and the Romanian state is so dysfunctional, it cannot be anything other than dysfunctional as long as the political system fails to do its duty. This is the real reason why we are at the bottom of the majority of European rankings," Geoană said.

He mentioned that there are also many politicians and state officials in Romania who are competent, good patriots, and try to do their duty.

"However, too many of them are sidelined, intimidated, or removed by a political oligarchy whose practices are closer to the Fanariote ways than to the meritocracy that defines any successful, modern system in this world," argued Mircea Geoană.
