Romania made a mistake by not seeking help from NATO allies because it was subjected to a hybrid war that propelled Călin Georgescu to the top in the presidential elections, says Kelemen Hunor. „It’s not too late. And now you can request help,” he adds.
On the other hand, at this moment, Kelemen Hunor is convinced that if he enters the second round of the presidential elections, Crin Antonescu will defeat the sovereignist Călin Georgescu.
"Romania made a huge mistake last year by not formally requesting help from the North Atlantic Alliance, because in the last NATO summit they introduced a final article there, if I'm not mistaken, which refers to hybrid wars against NATO member states.
You can ask for help from the North Atlantic Alliance. Of course, it's not about article 5, it's not about military interventions, but the North Atlantic Alliance, through its members, primarily the United States and other states, has the capacity to protect the system," Kelemen Hunor stated on Tuesday evening on Antena3.
However, Romania did not seek support from NATO allies.
"We did not ask for this help, not even after seeing what happened to us. It was a mistake. I don't know who should have asked, the Government, the President, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but you could have asked for help. It's not too late. If we see what is happening, you can still request help. Not from Brussels, not from the European Union, but from the North Atlantic Alliance," emphasizes Kelemen Hunor, quoted by Mediafax.
"I am convinced that in Romania there are over 50% of people who want to move forward and not backward, in the '30s and '40s"
Kelemen Hunor also commented on the poll released by Nicușor Dan, in which the Mayor of Bucharest appears in second place in the electorate's preferences.
"Last week, we saw another poll where Victor Ponta was in second place. If Nicușor Dan comes and releases a poll, he will surely be in second place, not in fifth place.
I have also seen polls where Crin Antonescu and Nicușor Dan are neck and neck, with percentages of 1% more, less. (...) so from this point of view, at least for me, it is important to run a campaign with correct messages that are responses to the citizens' issues: the state-citizen relationship, issues related to the challenges of the years ahead.
Antonescu manages to have answers to everything that is important for the citizens of Romania, then you can win the elections in the second round, it is not the polls that need to be won," Kelemen Hunor stated on Tuesday evening on Antena3.
The Hungarian leader believes that a percentage of over 18 for Crin Antonescu is "a fair score," considering that he entered the electoral race last. He believes that the coalition's score will continue to rise "every week and will be in the second round and will win the elections."
"If he enters the second round, he will win. I am convinced that in Romania there are over 50% of people who want to move forward and not backward, in the '30s and '40s," said Kelemen, quoted by News.ro.
