Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu visited the Olt Valley on Wednesday, where he analyzed the works alongside the Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu. Ciolacu considers these to be the most challenging works since the Revolution, while Grindeanu estimates that they will be completed by August 9th.
„I believe it was the right decision (to close the Olt Valley – ed.), having a fair partner in the constructors, who have committed to a very short time frame that they will respect, we hope the weather will also help us.
It is one of the greatest achievements. Plus, the heavy works will now begin, with a work front through these clearings along these access roads. I think these are the most challenging works we have had since the Revolution, but we need to get used to them because we need to prepare for Comarnic – Brașov," said Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
Minister of Transport Sorin Grindeanu believes that the works on the Olt Valley are nearly 75% completed, and the constructor is on schedule.
"Next week, we have a deadline of August 9th for the reopening of traffic. At this moment, I have no reasons to doubt that this deadline will be met. They have worked very well, there has been consistent work during this period, evidenced by reaching 75% in these 3 weeks. (...) Postponement would have meant a one-year delay and a penalty of 80 million lei," Grindeanu said.
He added that closing traffic on the Olt Valley was a decision made after discussions with CNAIR and other private companies, as no one would have been willing to work under traffic during this period.
According to Minister Grindeanu, working at night would have endangered the circulation of traffic participants, as well as the workers who would have had to clear or operate excavators in the forest at night.
