The Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice specified on Wednesday evening that it is competent to resolve the case in which Călin Georgescu is being investigated, indicating that investigations are also being conducted regarding a magistrate who allegedly supported criminal activities.

„Within the case subject to the aforementioned press release, investigations are being carried out in relation to the support of criminal activities by a person who holds the status of a magistrate. According to the provisions of Law no. 49/2022, in such situations, the competence to resolve belongs exclusively to the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice in relation to all offenses under investigation,” stated PICCJ on Wednesday evening regarding the competence to resolve the case involving Călin Georgescu.

The General Prosecutor's Office adds that "in relation to the offenses falling within the jurisdiction provided by law for lower hierarchical prosecutor's offices, the cases handled by them have been taken over, based on art. 325 of the Criminal Procedure Code, by the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice for the purpose of conducting criminal investigations."

The ICCJ Prosecutor's Office announced the initiation of criminal proceedings against Călin Georgescu. Among the accusations are incitement to actions against the constitutional order, dissemination of false information, continuous false declarations regarding the sources of electoral campaign funding, and asset declarations.

Călin Georgescu was taken into custody by the police and brought in for questioning on the same day as searches were conducted targeting actions against the constitutional order, public incitement, initiation of a fascist organization, false declarations regarding the sources of electoral campaign funding.

Prosecutors issued a warrant for his arrest, and Georgescu was stopped in traffic and brought to the General Prosecutor's Office, where he entered smiling, on crutches, flanked by gendarmes.

Upon leaving the Prosecutor's Office, Georgescu said that there is no difference between our times and the system and mentality of the 1950s, but he said, "we move forward."
