The Regional Directorate of Roads and Bridges (DRDP) in Brașov County announces that snow removal on the Transfăgărășan road has reached the most difficult area, prone to avalanches.
The snow layer is over four meters thick and compacted and frozen on one of the most impressive roads in Europe.
"Over 4 meters of snow on the Transfăgărășan! The tough part begins now! We have reached the most challenging area for snow removal on the Transfăgărășan, exposed to avalanches and with a very thick layer of compacted and frozen snow," announced DRDP Brașov on Thursday.
The road maintenance workers are currently working on opening at least one lane to create space for more equipment to maneuver.
"We hope that the weather will be on our side so that we can open the Transfăgărășan as soon as possible," further conveyed DRDP Brașov.
Traffic on DN 7 C, Transfăgărășan, is closed between Piscu Negru and Cabana Bâlea Cascadă.
