The Russian Embassy in Bucharest maintains that Romania is not the target of any attack from Moscow, and the drones that fell on Romanian territory yesterday „could have been a provocation by the Ukrainian side.”
The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday evening that the Chargé d’Affaires of the Russian Federation in Bucharest was summoned to the Foreign Ministry, where he was informed of „the firm condemnation of the repeated violation of Romanian airspace by unmanned vehicles of the Russian military forces.”
"Romania is not the target of any attack by the Russian Federation," the embassy stated in the clarifications provided.
According to the embassy, the targets of the Russian Armed Forces' attacks on Ukrainian territory are exclusively military objectives and infrastructure used in the interest of the Ukrainian armed forces and the Ukrainian military-industrial complex.
"There are no attacks targeting civilian infrastructure," the diplomatic representation asserts.
"In the absence of compelling evidence regarding the Russian origin of the drones that crashed on Romanian territory, it cannot be ruled out that the incidents on February 13 could have been a provocation by the Ukrainian side amid the ongoing peace negotiations to settle the conflict in Ukraine," the cited source adds.
The Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday that two drones used by the Russian Federation in attacks on the Ukrainian port infrastructure on the Danube have fallen on Romanian territory, near the Romanian-Ukrainian border, in uninhabited areas.
Both drones were carrying explosive payloads, which were destroyed upon impact with the ground.
Two drones were also detected on the territory of Moldova on Thursday morning. And Chisinau's reaction came much faster than Romania's.
