A passenger train carriage of R 2601 derailed on Thursday after leaving the Şag station, Timiş county, causing the railway traffic to be suspended between Timişoara and Arad, in Romania.
The railway company CFR Călători claims that the safety of passengers and railway staff was not compromised and that the last technical inspection of the carriages was done before the train departed from Timişoara, where it originated.
"We mention that the last technical inspection of the carriages was carried out before directing the train into service at the Timişoara station, being a technical inspection at composition. Also, according to CFR Călători's internal preventive maintenance plans, a detailed inspection of the suspended parts and wheel profile of the carriages was conducted during the night at these carriages, inspection done at the revision channel," the source stated.
Currently, the circulation of seven passenger trains is affected, temporarily stationed at adjacent stations: IR 1532, IR 11501, IRN 1765, IRN 78, R 2603, R 10512, and R 3112.
CFR Călători will provide auto transshipment for passengers between Timişoara Nord - Aradu Nou and back.
The railway accident will be investigated by a commission, which will determine the causes of the derailment.
