Unreal scenes in a forest in Romania: four liberal politicians come across a gas pipeline and decide to light a lighter to test it.
The protagonists in the images are:
- Ion Iordache, senator and candidate for the Chamber of Deputies,
- Iulian Popescu, former prefect of Gorj and candidate for the Senate,
- the mayor of Ciuperceni commune, Claudiu Matei Dragotă.
- Iani Gârbaciu, spokesperson for the Gorj Prefecture,
The delegation was present in Ciuperceni commune during the pre-election campaign.
Jurnalul Olteniei reports that the liberals wanted to make an electoral video, which they also posted on Facebook, suggesting that the county has untapped natural resources.
Senator Iordache narrates in the video how the gas could be captured and supplied to the commune.
At one point, the delegation reached a gas pipeline in a forest. The pipeline is equipped with a vent, most likely, and gas was emanating from that opening. In the footage, Iani Gârbaciu is seen lighting the gas with a lighter.
The resulting flame reaches the ends of the four individuals who take a step back.
Contacted by Digi24, Senator Iordache initially maintained that the action was taken to show that, at the level of Gorj county, there are natural gas reserves that are not being properly exploited. Later, he stated that he was trying to draw attention to the danger in that area.
Following the images that appeared in the public space, the Gorj County Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and the Gorj County Police Inspectorate have initiated inspections, as reported by Gazeta de Sud.
The Gorj County Police Inspectorate informed the National Energy Regulatory Agency to take legal measures:
“Following the images that appeared online, in which four men are around a natural gas transport valve, and one of them lights the gas coming out of the valve on fire, the Gorj County Police Inspectorate informed the National Energy Regulatory Agency to take legal measures in accordance with Law no. 123 of 2012 regarding electric energy and natural gas.”
