Fake news reporting the death of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan in a car accident

The Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) denies a false piece of information spread online on Thursday through fake social media accounts, announcing the death of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan in a car accident. The Police warns that the purpose of such posts is misinformation and manipulation of citizens.

„We note that online, on fake social media accounts, false information is being disseminated that the Prime Minister of Romania has died in a car accident. We emphasize that the information is false! The Prime Minister was NOT involved in any car accident, and these posts aim to misinform and manipulate Romanian citizens,” representatives of the MAI stated in a Facebook post on Thursday.

They urge citizens not to share false information and to seek information from official and reliable sources.

"We specify that this information is part of the set of measures taken by MAI structures to counteract the disinformation process," MAI further stated.
