Georgescu Accused of Implicitly Encouraging Violence
The indictment revealed that, between June 16, 2020, and May 16, 2025, at various intervals and based on the same criminal resolution, on June 16, 2020, in September 2020, October 2, 2021, September 1, 2024, and May 16, 2025, Georgescu publicly promoted, through various means, fascist, legionary, and xenophobic ideas, concepts, and doctrines, such as:
- mass mobilization of the nation for its regeneration and rebirth through palingenesis - creating a new man under the umbrella of Orthodox Christian mysticism, including implicitly endorsing the use of violent means;
- the necessity of a charismatic, predestined, and authoritarian leader to carry out this process;
- excessive glorification of historical past in contrast to the present situation, characterized by the profound impact on the dignity of the national community and placing it in the victim status sphere, as a result of the actions of state enemies artificially identified as external state actors, with populist ultranationalism based on a mythical Christian core;
- the cult of Marshal Ion Antonescu, a person definitively convicted of war crimes, praising his person, presenting him as a national hero, mimicking not only his words but also his gestures and voice tone, and performing the Legionary salute during a speech in front of a crowd of protesters against restrictions imposed during the coronavirus pandemic, organized in University Square, Bucharest, on October 2, 2021.
The Case Has Been Sent to Sector 1 Bucharest Court
According to the High Court of Cassation and Justice Prosecutor's Office, Călin Georgescu has consistently affirmed his pro-legionary ideological stance over time in interviews, statements, or online posts, his connections in the neo-legionary environment with promoters of neo-legionary ideology, aiming to change the historical framing of the Legionary Movement in an attempt to normalize and revitalize Legionarism and figures associated with this ideology.
In this regard, Georgescu has made several laudatory statements praising Corneliu Zelea Codreanu, Ion Antonescu, Ion Moţa, and others, as stated by the institution.
The indictment has been forwarded to Sector 1 Bucharest Court, the competent court to adjudicate the case on the merits.
