Rome will tax tourists who visit the Trevi Fountain

Authorities in Rome would like to introduce a fee-based access system at the Trevi Fountain.

The fee is not intended to raise funds, but rather to screen tourists.

Authorities in Rome are considering implementing a ticket-based access system for visiting the famous Trevi Fountain, as reported by AFP.

According to statements by Alessandro Onorato, the local tourism councilor, the new system could include a free reservation for Rome residents and a symbolic one-euro fee for tourists.

According to information, the purpose of this measure is not to generate income, but to control crowds and prevent inappropriate behavior, such as consuming ice cream or pizza near the monument.

The number of visitors is expected to increase even more in 2025, on the occasion of the Catholic Church's Jubilee, when it is estimated that over 30 million people could visit Rome and the Vatican.

In addition, the government led by Giorgia Meloni is considering raising the tourist night tax, although this proposal has sparked dissatisfaction.
