Dozens of flamingos in the Danube Delta (Video)

Dozens of flamingo birds were spotted in recent days on the Sfântu Gheorghe branch of the Danube, announced the Administration of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve (ARBDD), which also posted a video with the exotic birds on its Facebook page.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, International Day for Biological Diversity, and the environmental authority urges the public to protect the environment.

"With their plumage in various shades of pink and the graceful way they move through the shallow waters in search of food, like true ambassadors of biodiversity, they come and add a touch of beauty to the natural deltaic habitats. (…) We hope to see them more often, and if they feel safe enough, maybe in the future they will also nest in the area," ARBDD states.

Păsările flamingo au poposit din nou în Delta Dunării🦩🦩🦩 Astăzi sărbătorim Ziua internațională a Biodiversității și, ca un răspuns la întrebarea ”De ce protejăm Delta Dunării?”, în oazele de liniște de pe brațul Sfântu Gheorghe au făcut din nou un scurt popas de odihnă și hrănire păsările flamingo.💚🦩Cu penajul lor în diferite nuanțe de roz și modul grațios în care se mișcă prin apele puțin adânci în căutarea hranei, ca adevărați ambasadori ai biodiversității, vin și adaugă un plus de frumusețe habitatelor naturale deltaice. Dat fiind faptul că au tendința să plece din locurile în care oamenii se apropie prea mult, inspectorii ecologi ai A.R.B.D.D. au ales să le urmărească de la o distanță ceva mai mare. Sperăm să le revedem mereu mai des, și dacă se vor simți suficient de în siguranță, poate în viitor vor și cuibări în zonă.🦩

In previous years, flamingo birds have also been observed in the Danube Delta, with ARBDD reporting in 2020 the largest group of this species observed in Romania in the last century.

The flamingo specimens were seen in the Sacalin marsh, a species breeding in the Mediterranean basin with the closest colonies in Greece, Turkey, or Montenegro.
