Romania currently has the highest energy prices in Europe

For three days, Romania has had the highest energy prices in Europe on the spot market, and the situation will continue on Friday.

Prices are almost double compared to last week. On Thursday, the average spot price of electricity delivery was, in Romania, 504 lei/MWh or approximately 101 euros/MWh, the highest in Europe and double compared to Germany.

"We are decoupled from neighboring countries due to frequency issues. Certain nuclear power plants are shut down, both the one in Hungary and the one in Bulgaria are under maintenance. And we see the impact of cheap energy coming from west to east."

"We are now seeing a price increase of 500 lei (per MWh - ed.) in Romania, compared to 300 lei, which we had last week," said Raluca Rusu, a director at Monsson Trading, one of the most important players in the renewable energy sector in Romania, according to Hotnews.

According to her, in a year, when Romania will have renewable energy capacities comparable to those in Western European countries, we will have much lower prices than the ones we see at the moment.
