Norway says that electric cars now outnumber gasoline cars, a significant step towards completely phasing out fossil fuel cars by 2025.
Norway has achieved a global first, now having more electric cars than gasoline cars, AFP writes.
According to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (OFV), out of the 2.8 million registered private cars, 754,303 are electric, compared to 753,905 gasoline cars.
Although diesel cars are the most numerous, their numbers are rapidly declining.
OFV Director, Oyvind Solberg Thorsen, stated that this moment represents a "historic leap," adding that Norway is on track to have a fully electric vehicle fleet by 2025, 10 years ahead of the European Union.
In August, electric vehicles accounted for 94.3% of new registrations, an enviable achievement, in contrast to the decline in EV sales in other parts of Europe.
Norway has implemented fiscal incentives and offered various benefits to support the transition to electric mobility, leading to the current situation.
