Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced that he supports the PSD amendment from Monday, which extends the capping of markups on basic food prices until December 31, 2024.
“I support the amendment submitted today in Parliament by PSD, an amendment that extends the capping of markups on basic food prices until December 31, 2024! It is a measure absolutely justified until inflation drops below 5% by the end of the year, according to BNR data,” wrote Marcel Ciolacu on Facebook on Monday.
“In the coming days, we will also present an improved mechanism for capping energy and gas prices, which will provide additional assistance to both the population and the economy until 2026,” Ciolacu continued.
The Minister of Agriculture had spoken since January about continuing the capping of basic food prices, specifying that these are products consumed by 50% of Romanians and are essential for all low- and medium-income families.
The Minister also mentioned at that time that all products consumed during the Easter period will be taken into account.
