The last performance of Romania at the 2026 Olympic Games ended with a meritorious result

The men’s 4-person bobsleigh team was Romania’s final performance at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina, Italy.

On Sunday, the last 2 runs of the final took place, and the bobsled piloted by Mihai Tentea, who already secured 5th place at this edition of the Olympics in the 2-man bobsleigh, finished in 17th place, with Constantin Dinescu, George Iordache, and Mihai Păcioianu.

After the third run, a very good one, the Romanian athletes were propelled up to 14th place, even though they had started the day three places lower. Unfortunately, the 4th run was a bad omen for us, and the end brought us back to the same spot as the beginning, 17th.

Germany monopolized the top two positions on the podium. Johannes Lochner and his team took the gold, while the second position belonged to the bobsled driven by Francesco Friedrich. The battle for bronze was dramatic, and Switzerland made a fantastic recovery in the final run and secured the medal, thanks to the contribution of Captain Vogt.

Mihai Tentea and George Iordache achieved Romania's best performance in bobsleigh since the 1972 Olympics in Sapporo, with that 5th place from a few days ago in the men's 2-person bobsleigh.

Romania's only medal at the Winter Olympics was the bronze won in the men's 2-person bobsleigh by Ion Panţuru and Nicolae Neagoe in 1968 in Grenoble.
