Nicolae Stanciu scored his first goal for Genoa in his very first official match for the Grifoni, in a 3-0 victory in the Italian Cup against LR Vicenza from the third league.
Gazzetta dello Sport, the prestigious publication from Italy, dedicated an extensive article to Genoa after this victory, in which Nicolae Stanciu scored the third goal, under the watchful eyes of Mircea Lucescu, Răzvan Raț, and Dan Șucu.
The journalists from the Peninsula highlighted the fact that Patrick Vieira received exactly the players he wanted in the summer, from owner Șucu, including a spirited midfielder, capable of wreaking havoc on the opposing goals, like Stanciu.
"Patrick Vieira wanted to raise the bar compared to last season, so the Genoa coach had requested an offensive midfielder worth considering at the beginning of the transfer period."
The 3-0 victory against Vicenza is proof of this - his wish was fulfilled, as against a strong Vicenza team, which remained in the game until almost halfway through the match, Genoa demonstrated remarkable quality from midfield upwards.
Stanciu (who was supported in the stands by the president of Rossoblu, Șucu, and by Mircea Lucescu, the head coach of the Romanian national team) proved to be a threat both from set pieces and from distance, while Valentin Carboni, who chose Genoa as a way to revive his career, immediately scored the first goal.

Also in the Italian Cup, on Friday, another Romanian impressed, namely Rareș Ilie, who with his performance, including a goal scored, helped Empoli overcome Reggiana, 1-1 and 3-0 after penalties.
