George Simion has submitted his candidacy for the presidential elections: Immediately the first challenge came

The president of AUR, George Simion, submitted his candidacy on Friday to the Central Electoral Bureau for the presidential elections on May 4. However, a challenge was filed just minutes after Simion submitted his candidacy file accompanied by a list of supporters’ signatures.

Along with Simion’s candidacy proposal, the electoral symbol that the party Alliance for the Union of Romanians (A.U.R.) wishes to use in the presidential elections was also submitted for analysis, announced the Central Electoral Bureau.

The Central Electoral Bureau is set to analyze and determine the fulfillment of the legal conditions for the registration of the candidacy and electoral symbol.

A Lawyer Challenges

Shortly after Simion left the Central Electoral Bureau, the first challenge to the AUR leader's candidacy was filed, initiated by lawyer Bogdan Ionescu. He stated on the mentioned TV channel that essentially the challenge concerns the fact that George Simion is prohibited from entering the territory of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

The challenge was filed by lawyer Bogdan Ionescu. He announced on Antena 3 that, in his opinion, Simion is the most ineligible candidate at the constitutional level.

The lawyer explained that declaring Simion persona non grata in the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine is an extremely negative element that would exclude him from the electoral race.

"We need to analyze why he was declared persona non grata in the two countries," the lawyer said.

The leader of AUR announced that 600,000 signatures have been collected for the submission of his candidacy in the presidential elections, and the party's structure of AUR continues to collect signatures for the POT leader, Anamaria Gavrilă. She is expected to submit her candidacy on Saturday, the last day to do so.

After the rejection of Călin Georgescu's candidacy, the leaders of AUR and POT announced that both will submit their candidacies, and after their validation, one of them will withdraw.

Simion is prepared to become the "target of the system"

After submitting his candidacy to the Central Electoral Bureau, George Simion stated that he will become the "target of the system" in the next two months.

He also thanked the POT president, Anamaria Gavrilă, "for knowing how to work together as a team, in this team and in this form," as reported by Mediafax.

"So it's not about me. But about me, I can tell you one thing. I will try to surpass myself, to make every possible and impossible effort for our people.

I make one promise to go all the way and not betray the Romanian people. Of course, yes, as a person, I will become the target of the system in the next two months. They will invent things about me, a lot of fiction will be written, false recordings made with deep-fake technology and through artificial intelligence will appear.

We are not interested. It's not about me here. It's not just for me that over 600,000 signatures have been collected from Sunday until now and a number, I am sure, equally impressive for my colleague, Ana Maria. We have one goal. Returning to democracy and returning to normality," Simion concluded.
