The director of a tournament that Simona Halep (33 years old) has won three times in her career spoke about our athlete on the occasion of her retirement from tennis.
Valerie Tetreault, the director of the National Bank Open, was asked about Simona’s retirement, and she described our athlete in beautiful words.
Tetreault said she admired Simona's tenacity and playing style, also comparing Halep to the Belgian Justine Henin.
"I have always been impressed by her work ethic. She demanded a lot from herself, sometimes too much. A charismatic player. In her best form, I enjoyed watching her matches, her tenacity, playing style. I think I identified with her a little, and I believe she has become a role model for many.
In a way, I could see in Simona what Justine Henin was doing a few years ago," said Valerie Tetreault.
Simona Halep has won the National Bank Open three times in her career, in 2016 and 2018 in Montreal, and in 2022 in Toronto.
