Dacia will produce, for the first time in Europe, an electric car. It was developed in just 16 months, and the price will start at 18,000 euros or even less.
Luca de Meo, CEO of the Renault Group, mentioned, among other things, the imminent launch on the European market of a new Class A electric SUV, bearing the Dacia badge. The model will be assembled in Europe and will be based on the platform of the future Renault Twingo E-Tech, as reported by Auto Car UK and Electrive, cited by Economedia.ro.
It has not been announced in which country on the continent the car could be built. Renault has factories in France, Romania, Slovenia, and Turkey.
The new electric car, alongside the Twingo, marks a change of pace for the Renault Group in developing new models. This will be the fastest model developed by the Renault Group to date. The change is part of the Leap 100 strategy, under which each new Renault car will be developed in a maximum of 100 weeks, meaning in less than two years.
According to the manufacturer's assumed timelines, the new Dacia electric car should be launched in mid-2026, approximately a year before Dacia introduces the new third-generation Sandero – which will be offered for the first time as an electric car.
The short development time is possible because the new car is based on the platform of the Twingo electric model, which was announced at a price of around 20,000 euros.
According to de Meo, the Dacia model will be 2,000 euros cheaper and will thus have a lower price of 18,000 euros. It is designed as a successor to the Dacia Spring, a model imported from China and currently sold for 17,000 euros.
On the other hand, the new Dacia electric car to be built in Europe is expected to benefit from notable improvements in terms of technology and performance, as noted by the source.
