Singer Babasha spoke in an Instagram video about his appearance at the Coldplay concert, where the audience booed and whistled at him.
He mentioned that he didn't expect it to be that bad and said that manele music is badly reputed only because of racism, not because of the music itself.
Manele is a mixture of "oriental" Romanian folk and contemporary pop music with bases on Balkan influences. The lyrics usually refer to themes of love, enemies, money, alcoholism and difficulties of life in general.
"I never expected it to be that bad in my life. I thank all those who defended me. There are a few people from whom I didn't expect it.
I am just a 22-year-old kid who really works, day and night, for a dream. For those who don't understand, manele music is badly reputed only because of racism, not because of the music itself. Foreigners appreciate us, only Romanians don't appreciate us," Babasha conveyed.
The singer talked about collaborating with British artists and said he would have accepted to sing with them "regardless of all the booing."
"For those who don't know, Coldplay wanted to have a moment with a Romanian artist for their concert, the one on June 12 and 13. They looked at music charts and saw me. They personally contacted my managers.
I don't know how many of you would have refused such an opportunity, because we're talking about a different level and, regardless of all the booing in the world, I would have still accepted. It's a once in a lifetime thing. I also had a sound check before, because that's normal, with Chris Martin personally. He really liked me."
Coldplay is set to perform their second concert in Bucharest on Thursday at the National Arena. Babasha announced that on Thursday "an even better show awaits."
