Emma Răducanu loses dramatically in the Wimbledon round of 16

Emma Raducanu was dramatically defeated in the Wimbledon round of 16, the third Grand Slam tournament of the year.

On the London grass at the All England Club, the British tennis player with Romanian origins, ranked 135th in the WTA, former US Open champion, was defeated by LuLu Sun, New Zealand, 123rd in the world, with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

It was a tough match, lasting 2 hours and 45 minutes. Raducanu slipped to 3-5 during the second set and injured her knee, knowing that she returned to Wimbledon after a long break and after undergoing two difficult surgeries.

The match was nevertheless controlled by the New Zealander in sets 1 and 3, the latter being also the most crucial, with Raducanu fighting hard in the second set to level the score.

The athlete from New Zealand astonishingly qualifies for the Wimbledon quarterfinals, where she will face Donna Vekic, Croatia, who also today defeated Paula Badosa from Spain in three sets.

It is the third time in Emma Raducanu's career that she reaches the round of 16 in a Grand Slam tournament.

At 21 years and 234 days old, Emma Raducanu is the second youngest British player in the last four decades to defeat a top 10 WTA opponent at a Grand Slam, following her victory over Maria Sakkari, ranked 9th in the world, in the second round.
