The Romanian government has set the electoral calendar for the parliamentary elections on December 1, 2024.
The Executive has approved three government decisions detailing the electoral calendar, technical measures, and expenses for the preparation, organization, and conduct of the elections for the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
Government spokesperson Mihai Constantin presented the calendar for the 2024 parliamentary elections.
Thus, the electoral campaign begins on November 1. October 17 is the deadline by which political parties, political alliances, electoral alliances, or organizations of citizens belonging to national minorities can submit candidate lists and independent candidacies in the electoral constituencies nationwide.
Mihai Constantin specified that after completing the first step outlined in the electoral calendar, namely the establishment of the Central Electoral Bureau, the main calendar milestones are as follows:
- September 10 - deadline for submitting the protocol for the establishment of the electoral alliance to the Central Electoral Bureau.
- September 16 - deadline for voters residing in the country but living abroad, as well as those residing abroad, to register in the electoral register with their address abroad, with the option for voting at the polling station or by correspondence, on the website votstrainatate.ro.
- September 16 - diplomatic missions and consular offices communicate to the Permanent Electoral Authority the proposals regarding the locations of polling stations abroad.
- October 2 - deadline for submitting candidate lists and independent candidacies for the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies in the electoral constituency for Romanian citizens residing or domiciled outside the country, as well as for submitting candidate lists of organizations of citizens belonging to national minorities for all electoral constituencies.
- October 17 - deadline for voters residing in the country and living abroad, as well as those residing abroad, to register in the electoral register with the address abroad with the option for voting by correspondence.
- October 17 - deadline by which political parties, political alliances, electoral alliances, or organizations of citizens belonging to national minorities can submit candidate lists and independent candidacies in the electoral constituencies nationwide.
- October 22 - deadline for establishing and submitting electoral symbols to the Central Electoral Bureau.
- October 31 - setting the airtime for political parties, political alliances, electoral alliances, and organizations of citizens belonging to national minorities participating in the elections.
- November 1 - start of the electoral campaign.
- November 30, 7:00 a.m. - end of the electoral campaign.
- November 30, local time 7:00 a.m. - start of the first day of voting abroad.
- November 30, local time 9:00 p.m. - end of the first day of voting abroad.
- November 30, local time 9:00 p.m.-11:59 p.m. - continuation of voting abroad for voters present at the polling station at 9:00 p.m., as well as for those waiting outside the polling station to enter.
- December 1, 7:00 a.m. - start of voting in the country. Start of the second day of voting abroad.
- December 1, 9:00 p.m. - End of voting in the country. End of the second day of voting abroad.
- December 1, local time 9:00 p.m.-11:59 p.m. - continuation of voting abroad for voters present at the polling station at 9:00 p.m., as well as for those waiting outside the polling station to enter.
