Social democrats specify that the draft Government Decision promoted by the Ministry of Development regarding the introduction of taxes for vehicles circulating in Low Emission Zones will not be discussed by the Government, informs Mediafax.
„The draft Government Decision promoted by the Ministry of Development regarding the introduction of taxes for vehicles circulating in Low Emission Zones will not be discussed by the Government,” announces PSD.
The social democrats state that this initiative, which has a high social impact and introduces new taxes, "did not comply with Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu's request to first go through a public consultation phase and be politically validated within the Governing Coalition."
"Therefore, the project will be removed from the Government's agenda," mentions PSD.
The Government Decision draft initiated by the Ministry of Development envisaged the establishment of Low Emission Zones in Romanian cities, where the circulation of vehicles owned by citizens and companies that do not meet certain emission standards will be restricted, and in some cases, allowed only after payment of a fee. Vehicles of defense, public order, and public service institutions are exempt from the provisions of the current Government Decision. Also, the law's provisions do not apply to those who have their domicile or residence in the respective zone, according to Economedia.
Initially, non-compliance with the provisions in the special zones is punished with a fine – 300 lei for the first offense, which, if not paid within the deadline, incurs penalties of 500 lei per day.
