Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev accused neighboring Finland on Monday of preparing for a war against Russia and once again demanded that the Finnish government pay compensation to Moscow for World War II.
„After joining NATO, under the pretext of defensive measures, Helsinki is preparing for a war with Russia,” wrote former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, currently the Vice President of the National Security Council of the Russian Federation, in an article for the Russian public news agency TASS.
According to the Russian official, command structures of Finnish army units have been established in the Lapland region, in the immediate vicinity of the Russian border.
It is clear who these structures are directed against, as NATO has declared Russia an enemy state, notes Medvedev in the article titled: "Finland's New Doctrine: Stupidity, Lies, Ingratitude."
Finland, which has been neutral throughout the post-war period, has finally decided to join NATO, as well as Sweden, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Since then, Russia perceives a threat in the intensification of defense capabilities of this neighboring country with which it had direct military conflicts last century.
Considering that Finland is thus violating old agreements, Russia is now resuming past demands for war reparations and no longer considers itself bound by the 1947 peace treaty, which limited Russia's war reparations claims against Finland to $300 million.
As Medvedev claims, the updated value of the damages caused by Finland to Russia in World War II would amount to 20 trillion rubles, approximately $244 billion.
