Kazakh tennis player Elena Rybakina, the Wimbledon champion, secured another victory in Madrid, at the WTA 1000 Masters tournament, against Mayar Sherif from Egypt.
The Moscow-born player comfortably defeated the African athlete with a score of 6-1, 6-4, and equaled a clay court record held by Serena Williams, Simona Halep, and Iga Swiatek.
Rybakina advanced to the round of 16 in the Madrid tournament, ranking fourth in the world and in exceptional form. She boasts a record of 28-4 wins/losses in 2024, marking her 14th consecutive official victory on clay after the title in Stuttgart, accumulating 374 days of being undefeated on this surface.
She is only the 4th player to achieve 14 consecutive wins on clay, following Serena Williams, Simona Halep, and Iga Swiatek.
Moreover, nearing the halfway point of the season, Rybakina ranks 2nd in the WTA Race, the global ranking based solely on this year's results.
Elena Rybakina faces an accessible match in the round of 16, where she will meet Sara Bejlek, an 18-year-old player ranked 136th in the world from the Czech Republic.
