Daniel David, the Minister of Education, stated that a potential teachers’ strike in September „cannot bring anything in terms of half a year, a year, in the changes that are currently being made.”
Daniel David specified that all areas of activity are affected by measures to cover the budget deficit, and a teachers’ strike would not bring „anything good.”
„The country is in such a bad state that a strike in September cannot bring anything in terms of half a year, a year, in the changes that are currently being made because if we give up on these things, we have problems with salaries and scholarships in our field, but the country has problems in general with salaries, pensions, scholarships, social benefits, there is no money, the country is being blocked,” the minister stated on Radio Romania Cultural.

When asked about starting the school year with a teachers’ strike, Daniel David noted that it would lead to „the same situation,” meaning „discussing how to reduce the period during which these measures are applied.”
„I tell you honestly, and if there is a strike, we will end up in the same situation discussing how to reduce the period during which these measures are applied and thinking about what other measures we can take to ease the situation for teachers. We can do that without a strike because I am open to discussing these things and I know they need to be discussed,” added the Minister of Education.
Education unions have launched protests in front of the Ministry of Education and Research after Daniel David announced that there is no more money for teachers’ salaries until the end of the year.
