Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked his Romanian counterpart Nicușor Dan on Monday during a meeting in Vilnius for „ensuring that Ukraine can count on Romania’s continuous support.”
„I thank Nicușor Dan for ensuring that Ukraine can count on Romania’s continuous support, support for Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO and confirming the president’s personal participation in the Ukraine – South-East Europe Summit to be held in Odesa,” Zelensky wrote on Facebook, accompanying his message with a short video from the meeting with Nicușor Dan.
Volodymyr Zelensky also stated that he discussed with Nicușor Dan "diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine and across Europe, the meeting in Istanbul, and the need to strengthen sanctions against Russia to prevent the expansion of its military production and the continuation of the war."
"Particular attention was paid to the upcoming NATO Summit in The Hague," added the Ukrainian president.
Zelensky also congratulated his Romanian counterpart on the victory in the presidential elections.
In turn, after the meeting with Zelensky, Nicușor Dan wrote on platform X that "the Ukrainian people continue to show great courage defending our common values - freedom and democracy."
"A just and lasting peace can only be achieved by showing strength. Romania will continue to stand by Ukraine and further deepen bilateral ties for the benefit of our peoples," added the Romanian head of state.
Nicușor Dan was on his first foreign visit since taking office on Monday and participated in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, at the B9 and Nordic Countries Summit.
He held a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Polish President Andrzej Duda, and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, hosted by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.
Nicușor Dan also had a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
