A Romanian driver has been detained and placed in preventive custody by French customs officers for transporting nearly half a ton of cocaine.
The announcement was made on X by customs officers from Hauts-de-France, who discovered over 438 kg of cocaine hidden in the truck driven by the Romanian.
The inspection was carried out on the night of February 3 to 4 at the toll booth on the A2 motorway in the direction of Paris-Brussels.
The truck driver, "a Romanian citizen without a work contract," claimed to be coming from Portugal and heading to Germany to deliver cosmetic products.
Placed in preventive custody, he was supposed to appear before the court on Monday, but requested time to prepare his defense. His trial has been rescheduled for April 10 in Cambrai.
