Former tennis great John McEnroe has made a comparison between the two doping cases involving Simona Halep and Jannik Sinner.
The multiple champion stated that Simona Halep has every reason in the world to be upset, after her case was treated radically differently from that of the ATP ranking leader.
"In Simona's case, I don't know what they found in her body and what they found in Jannik's, but I could easily see why she is upset, there is no doubt about that. Her case seemed to last for a few years and affected her career greatly. It seems that here (with Sinner) there will be no suspension at this time," said John McEnroe in a conference organized by Eurosport.
The ITIA exonerated the world's number 1 in men's tennis, Jannik Sinner, after he tested positive twice for a banned substance (an anabolic steroid called Clostebol) in March.
According to the ITIA, the substance entered his body due to contamination by a member of the medical team.
Sinner lost his ranking points and had to return $300,000, money obtained from his qualifications.
The news sparked a real storm in the tennis world, given the different standards that can be observed. Several players accuse different standards, as Sinner would have been forgiven because he is ranked first in the world.
Among those who reacted was Simona Halep. Our athlete posted a message to the ITIA, without making any reference to Sinner.
"Whoever wronged you, doesn't end up owing you, but ends up losing to himself," wrote Simona on Instagram.
