Boris Becker, comparison between Simona Halep and Sorana Cîrstea: What the former great champion noticed

Boris Becker made a comparison between Simona Halep and Sorana Cîrstea, the best Romanian players of the last 15 years.

Becker believes that Simona is a more complete player and that Sorana cannot be compared to her.

"You need to have what we call the 'whole package'. I think physical, technical, and mental abilities make you a complete player. I think Simo had that. Sorana is more relaxed now, and that's why she plays better. Halep was the world number one and a multiple Grand Slam champion because she had the 'whole package'. Sorana is good, obviously, but not as good," Becker said for Golazo.ro.

Furthermore, Becker advised Sorana to think more about retiring from tennis.

"Honestly, if I were in her place, that's what I would do. I would think about it more. I would wait until after the US Open (note - which ends on September 13) to fully enjoy the grass and hard court seasons. At this moment, she holds the highest position of her career. It's a golden opportunity for her to continue this excellent journey. If I were in her place, I would wait longer before making the final decision," Becker added.

"Regarding Sorana specifically, I believe the reason she is having an excellent year is related to the decision she made, that of retiring, and she is at peace with it. And that is a great relief. But I don't look at players' ages. I always evaluate them based on how good they are. I was good enough to win at 17 (note - Wimbledon in 1985). If you are good at 35-36, you will win. So, for me, 'years have just been a number'," Becker concluded.
