The european route trains are running again after 19 years

Passenger trains will resume service on the Bucharest – Giurgiu route starting from June 1, 2024, with the Romanian railroad company (CFR Călători) allocating seven pairs of Regio (R) trains.

A journey will take 130 minutes on the route Bucharest North – Bucharest Progresu – Giurgiu.

Between Gara de Nord and Giurgiu, the average speed will be 43 km/h, and between Progresu and Giurgiu, the average speed will be 46 km/h.

There are still areas where work is ongoing, speed restrictions exist, and on the direct line, locomotive-hauled trains will not operate, only railcars, due to weakened ground in the Daia area, 8 km from Giurgiu, according to TVR Info.

The resumption of journeys on this route is due to the completion of the reconstruction works of the railway bridge over the Argeş River in the Grădiştea area, collapsed in 2005 due to floods.

Trains operating on the direct route Bucharest - Grădiştea - Giurgiu, and vice versa, will have 12 stops along the entire route, with a journey taking about 40 minutes between Gara de Nord and Gara Progresu, and approximately 80 minutes from Gara Progresu to Giurgiu.
