On October 5th, The Constitutional Court of Romania publishes the reasoning according to which extremist leader Diana Șoșoacă has no right to run for the presidency of Romania.
„Public statements, positions taken, and the expression of beliefs contradicting constitutional values and the requirements of a democratic society, combined with participation in certain public events, are sufficient grounds to indicate that Mrs. Diana Iovanovici-Șoșoacă, as a candidate for the position of President of Romania, calls into question and disregards the obligation to respect the Constitution through her public discourse regarding the removal of essential guarantees of the values and fundamental options of the state, namely the quality of a member state of the EU and NATO,” one of the paragraphs of the report prepared by the CCR states.
On October 10th, the presidential candidacies of George Simion and Călin Georgescu are validated by the Central Electoral Bureau, even though the AUR president had a ban on entering Ukraine and Moldova for „activities” conducted against these two states, and Călin Georgescu was investigated by prosecutors for promoting fascism in a case from 2022, continuing to make statements in support of Legionarism.
Although the two repeatedly and demonstrably violated the criteria set by the CCR judges for meeting the conditions to enter the presidential race, the BEC validates their candidacies.
Ciolacu's Secret
Gigi Becali, the owner of the FCSB football team and sponsor of the AUR party, makes a statement in front of TV reporters where he says he was called by Viorel Hrebenciuc, a close associate of the PSD leadership, at the beginning of September, who proposed to help George Simion reach the second round of the presidential elections.
After making this revelation, Marcel Ciolacu calls Gigi Becali, telling him that he doesn't know how to keep a secret.
"It seems that there have been violations of the law in the area of anti-Semitism, Legionary propaganda, which should have been scrutinized more closely. Probably next time it will happen like this," stated Klaus Iohannis, on December 18th, acknowledging the failure of the presidency and government to enforce the law.
From the facts and statements mentioned above, it is evident that the Prime Minister of Romania, leveraging his privileged position, conspired alongside politicians, representatives of electoral authorities, and CCR judges, supported by the PSD, to create a favorable path in the race for the Cotroceni Palace, blocking an extremist candidate and favoring two others.
Deception
Marcel Ciolacu's political strategy was to reach the second round, alongside George Simion, the AUR leader.
For this purpose, he pulled strings at the CCR to have Diana Șoșoacă removed from the electoral race, but also manipulated information about George Simion's bans on entering Moldova and Ukraine.
On November 12th, Senator Ioan Chirteș (PNL), the President of the SRI Control Committee in Parliament, stated: "From the information I know and can publicly disclose, so far there are recordings from Ukrainian services, from a series of meetings that George Simion had especially in the Cernăuți area, with individuals belonging to various Russian intelligence services..."
The next day, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, a presidential candidate, strongly reacts to the statements of the parliamentary committee's head overseeing the SRI, demanding that the secret service "come out publicly and confirm" the senator's statements.
Marcel Ciolacu plays a deception, knowing full well that it is illegal, and the representatives of the SRI cannot declassify the briefings sent to "political decision-makers."
The Prime Minister did not explain the failure that led to the cancellation of the elections
The repeated actions to protect the candidacy of the extremist George Simion, suspected of ties to the Kremlin's secret services, contributed to creating an institutional blockade and vulnerableizing Romania in the face of Russia's hybrid attack.
Marcel Ciolacu, from his position as Vice President of the CSAT and beneficiary of intelligence agency reports, had legal obligations to act to protect the country, not to weaken it by encouraging and supporting political leaders with fascist and Legionary sympathies, as well as bans on entering neighboring countries.
Since the declassification of intelligence reports revealing that Russia considers Romania an enemy, major irregularities in Călin Georgescu's electoral campaign, and cyber attacks, Marcel Ciolacu, as Prime Minister, Vice President of the CSAT, and participant in the November 28 Council meeting, has not made any public statements about what happened, nor has he provided any explanation for the major failure of the presidency, the government he leads, and the intelligence agencies, a failure that led to the cancellation of the presidential elections.
Ineffective Briefings
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu remained the only key actor involved in the events that caused a major security crisis in Romania and did not come forward to explain what happened, why, and how our country suddenly became the sick man of Europe.
Despite many lingering questions, the position of the main intelligence agencies has come to the attention of the public through the declassification of reports, while that of the incumbent president has been announced through two statements and a press conference.
So far, prosecutors have not announced the launch of any investigation into how political leaders used secret information from security service reports in electoral campaigns.
From the declassified data, it is evident that in recent years, briefings have been sent to "decision-makers" about the danger posed by the hybrid warfare conducted by foreign entities and the actions of extremist leaders aimed at undermining Romania's constitutional order.
