Prosecutors officially announce on Tuesday morning that they have detained 11 individuals – 7 men and 4 women – in the Nordis case, including Laura Vicol (former head of the Legal Committee and PSD deputy) and her husband, Vladimir Ciorbă, the owner of Nordis.
Two other individuals have been placed under judicial control.
On Tuesday, the judge for rights and freedoms within the Bucharest Court of Appeal will be notified with a proposal for the preventive arrest of the detained persons.
Following yesterday's searches, over 50 computer systems and data storage devices (laptops, tablets, a server, memory sticks, and external hard drives), mobile phones, amounts of money in lei, euros, and other currencies, documents, luxury items (watches, jewelry, and bags bearing the logos of well-known brands), as well as other pieces of evidence were seized.
The investigation targets the formation of an organized criminal group, embezzlement with extremely serious consequences, money laundering, tax evasion, fraud with extremely serious consequences, willful establishment by the taxpayer of taxes, fees, or contributions, resulting in the unauthorized receipt of money as reimbursements or refunds from the consolidated general budget or compensations owed to the consolidated general budget, all in a continuous form.
The prosecutors accuse the leaders of the alleged criminal group of embezzling 71 million euros from clients' funds.
Prosecutors specify that the criminal investigation actions were carried out with the support of specialists from the General Directorate for Fiscal Anti-Fraud, and the judicial activities were conducted in collaboration with police officers from the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime.
The prosecutors conducted 65 home searches in Romania and Monaco.
