Cybersecurity specialists from the Military Intelligence Service of Ukraine (HUR) have launched a cyber attack against Gazprom and Gazpromneft.
The attack, of the Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) type, caused major disruptions in the digital services of the Russian giant, according to Hromadske, citing sources within HUR.
The incident was symbolically scheduled for January 29, on the day commemorating the Battle of Kruty in 1918, when Ukrainian students opposed the Bolshevik advance towards Kiev, writes Kiev Independent on Friday.
The attack affected critical online systems, leaving customers without access to fuel account and payment services from January 28.
Gazprom labeled the incident as a "temporary technical malfunction," without providing details on issue resolution.
"Today's problems of Russian drivers are a message from the heroes of Kruty, who a century ago struck the criminal Russian forces. We continue their fight, both on the front line and in cyberspace," conveyed HUR.
Cyber attacks have become a frequently used weapon by both sides in the war between Ukraine and Russia.
